Different Types:

There are also a few variations of the Russian salad, each with its own unique characteristics:

Olivier Salad:
This is the Russian salad's most well-known and traditional variant. Pickles, boiled eggs, mayonnaise, boiled potatoes, carrots, and peas are all included. Ham or bologna can also be found in some recipes.

Herring Under a Fur Coat: Layered salads like this one are typically served on special occasions like Christmas or New Year's Eve. Each layer is topped with mayonnaise and contains layers of herring, boiled potatoes, carrots, beets, and onions. Typically, grated boiled eggs serve as the final layer, giving the salad the appearance of a "fur coat."

Salad with Vinegret: Beets and beans take the place of meat and eggs in this vegetarian Russian salad. Boiled beets, carrots, and potatoes are all included, along with onions, pickles, and canned beans. Instead of mayonnaise, vinegar, and vegetable oil are used to dress it.

Olivier Salad with Chicken: This version of the traditional Olivier salad includes potatoes, carrots, peas, and boiled chicken. It is frequently served as a main dish.

Mimosa Salad: Similar to Herring Under a Fur Coat, but with a different flavor profile, this is another layered salad. It has layers of mayonnaise, boiled potatoes, carrots, canned fish, and eggs. The salad takes on the appearance of a "mimosa flower" when the final layer is typically grated boiled egg yolk.
